Feedback that is specific, not generic

The failure mode of AI feedback is sameness: “good job, work on your grammar.” The prompt here forbids it. Every criterion comment has to quote or paraphrase a specific moment in the student’s response, and the improvements list has to name a concrete revision the student can make in the next draft.

How to get a useful first pass

  1. Paste the rubric exactly as you use it. One criterion per line, with points if you have them. If you leave criteria out, they will not be scored.
  2. Paste the full response. Short excerpts produce shallow feedback, and the tool will tell you when there is not enough to grade.
  3. Choose the tone you would use with this student, then review the draft and adjust the wording before it goes home.

A workflow that saves the most time

Grade the first three responses yourself, compare them against the tool’s drafts, and adjust the rubric wording if the model is reading a criterion differently than you do. After that, batch through the rest and only edit the ones that sound off. To build the assignment in the first place, use the quiz generator.

Frequently asked questions

Does it replace my professional judgement?

No, and it should not. It produces a first pass against the rubric you supply, with evidence quoted from the student’s work. You review, adjust and sign off. Think of it as drafting feedback, not assigning grades.

Is student work stored?

No. The response is sent to the model, graded, and returned to your browser. It is not written to our database. Still check your district’s policy before pasting identifiable student work into any AI tool.

What if the student wrote very little?

The tool is instructed to score only what is evidenced and to say so plainly in the feedback, rather than inventing content the student never wrote.

Can I match my school’s feedback tone?

Three tones: encouraging, neutral/objective and strict/rigorous. Each changes how praise and criticism are balanced, not how the rubric is applied.

Can I get a version to send home?

Yes. Every run produces a short parent note in plain language alongside the teacher-facing feedback — no rubric jargon, no grade-only statement.
